Mother Ernestine Arrington Edwards was born to the late Nelson and Candice Arrington on September 9, 1936 in Nash County. She transitioned from earth to heaven on Thursday November 29, 2018 at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia. In addition to her parents she was preceeded in death by her son Orlando, two grandchildren Daniel and
Brittany, three brothers Jessie, Rudolph and Willie and two sisters Gertie
and Josephine.
Mother Ernestine Edwards graduated from Swift Creek High in 1953. She joined Social Union at an early age. In 1956 she moved her membership to Red Budd Holy Church under the leadership of the late Bishop F.C. Barnes where she served faithfully for over 50 years as the secretary, singing with the Red Budd Gospel Choir and as a Mother. She was highly known for her cooking: fried chicken, chicken salad, potato salad, collard greens, butter beans just to name a few. She was employed as a teacher’s aide at M.B.Hubbard Elementary School. She was later employed by Burlington Industries where she worked until she retired in 2008.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, a devoted husband for over 63 years Rev. Millard Earl Edwards, four sons: Gregory (Vania) Edwards of Landover, Maryland, Fernanda (Virginia) of Nashville, NC, Benjamin (Cynthia) Edwards of Rocky Mount, NC, Dwight Edwards of Wilmington, Delaware two daughters: Shelia Howard and Lynette (Cory) White both of Rocky Mount, NC. twelve grandchildren: Natalie (Zollie) Gupton, Tracey (David) Toebben, Quamesha Richardson, Dontae’ Edwards, Ni’gel (DJ) Pulley, Ki’ara Pulley, A’miracle and A’marion Richardson, Justin Edwards, Shelnayia Howard and Joshua Edwards and five great-grandchildren. One loving sister Barbara Vines of Maryland. Three special god daughters: Charlene Barnes, Gail Batts and Anita McDowell. And a host of nieces and nephews.
A Visitation for Mrs. Edwards will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., in the Rocky Mount chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Restoration Worship Center, 734 Falls Rd., in Rocky Mount, NC. Interment will take place immediately after the Service in Rocky Mount Memorial Park in Rocky Mount, N.C.
